Today in the Senate we passed a bill that would limit garnishments of wages for back taxes to 25%. While we want people to pay their taxes, the 100% of wages that is currently taken by the tax commission is so oppressive that the normal response by the taxpayer is to quit their job since they cannot pay their bills or feed their children. This should have the effect of increasing collections while also having mercy on those who owe back taxes.
